Jo Neville is a paper artist, and the resident artist at Q Station. She
creates, constructs and paints the most amazing pieces of art with
hand-cut paper.
Q Station Sydney Harbour National Park (Sydney's former Quarantine
Station) is a short ferry ride from Circular Quay. Surrounded by
National Park, the site is filled with a rich history and has cultural
significance for all Australians.
Jo wanted to paint her beautiful pieces with colours sourced from the
immediate landscape to add more depth and meaning to her work.

I visited Jo at her studio where she had collected samples of earth, sand, shell and coastal plants.
She then crushed the fragments into powders that were combined with water to make the basic palette.
Jo selected her hues and I copied the colours into Porter's Ultra Flat Acrylic.
Colour looks amazing in this acrylic paint and the finish is perfect for Jo's distinctive and unique work.

To achieve these colours that Jo had created from natural materials, in Ultra Flat Acrylic,
I used two of the unique Porter's Paints tints. Raw Umber and Burnt Umber both added depth and gave a lovely smoky quality
whilst also improving opacity and coverage.
Porter's tint system has 16 tints, four of which are unique which enables us to work with customers on bespoke colours,
creating distinct and original colours.
