I visited a building site in Redfern last week where Riva and her father
Michael were applying Interno (interior Lime Wash) to a ceiling.
The building was an old brick warehouse that was being converted into a new home
and the owner wanted a soft and natural finish on the ceilings that blended with the aged brick of the walls.
I've known Riva and Michael for many years.
Michael is an artist and his special finishes are just amazing.

So, the first thing Riva did was tape all the metal beams that supported the ceiling.
She didn't want any paint splattered on the newly installed supports.
The new plasterboard ceiling was sealed with Limeproof Undercoat Sealer
(an ideal broadwall undercoat for traditional and modern coatings).
This product is a simple application with a brush and roller.
Then, working together Riva and Michael applied the custom-coloured Interno by brush.
The paint edge was kept wet as they worked their way across the long ceiling and they
used the traditional application technique with random, relaxed brushstrokes.
The final finish is a soft and neutral colour that floats across the ceiling and helps
unite the rustic look of the original wall paint.
The undercoat is simple to roll on and the Interno is
a straightforward application technique that anyone can brush-apply.
