Hello, everyone! It's my first day back, so I'd like to introduce you to our
new-look diary. Kylie and I have put together some paint and design
suggestions that will help you with paint choice, and guide your customers
through the latest design trends:
Andy builds furniture for a small, boutique joinery business in Caringbah.
Each piece is handmade, then finished with a hand-applied finish. I was visiting
one day and had a look at his process for applying Porter's Paints which I
thought you might be interested to see.
After the kitchen panels have been primed and cured, Andy takes the pieces
inside his spray booth and applies a light dusting of Aqua Gloss Enamel to the
surface with a 180 tip on an HVLP system. Then, he immediately lays-off the
paint with a brush to create the handmade effect. He applies two layers of paint
with this technique.
The boards are left on drying racks to cure for a week so that the paint really
hardens, before being transported to the job site and installed.
Porter's Paints water-based enamels are extremely tough and simpler to use
than some of our competitors' versions. We've seen this paint used on all sorts
of surfaces, including commercial jobs and in customer homes.

Kitchens are the soul of any home. Albeit the kitchen may not be the biggest
room in our household, it supports us during every meal time, coffee break
and is a hive of activity whilst entertaining. It's because of all this family traffic
that kitchens must be one of the most redesigned spaces in a home. Even if
the layout never changes, swapping cabinetry doors, handles, bench tops and
hardware is a sure way to a speedy and cost effective impact.
Here is a quick overview of trends for the 2019 season to get you thinking about
the next facelift of your existing kitchen, or perhaps the blueprint for the new build.
Colour crush: Gone are the days where a white kitchen is considered classic.
Moving forward, we are seeing a strong introduction of dark/warm colours like moss,
burgundy and mustard. These colours are adding depth and interest to an otherwise
tonal collection of natural materials like timber, stones and metals.
Two-tone: A sure way to bring a space to life is to manipulate the tone.
Applying tonal variations across the spectrum with the use of mixed media material
and colour can change the mood, play upon spatial issues and inject instant character
and personal style to your space.
Modern with an old charming twist: Clean lines and practical design will always be at
the top of the kitchen requirement checklist. However, this trend gives us permission to
mix the old and the new as much as your heart desires.
Transitional: Any space in the home that can double as something else is always an
advantage. As your lifestyle evolves, an eat-in kitchen that transforms into a work space
or accommodates a dinner party of friends and family is ideal.
Nature's got the goods: Referencing slabs of natural materials in your kitchen for
benchtops, splash backs, cabinetry and accent details is where it's at. Metals, marbles and timbers are
all making a statement this season. These materials can be luxurious,
but when cared for properly will stand the test of time for durability, and best of all will
age with stunning character.
